Ok you've got a file that looks something like these
patch.pl8-9 and patch.pl9-10  (may not be exact)
and you've got your basic circlemud directory that looks like this:

circle-30bpl8 or something similar to that.

what you need to do is this:
1.  unzip the patch and/or tar if need be
2.  move the patch right next to the circledirectory so when you type ls
    you'll see this:
   
circle-30bpl8/   patch.pl8-9

3.  type patch < patch.pl8-9 (or whatever the patchname is).
4.  that should do it if not write again.  To everyone else if I've left 
    something out feel free to correct me.
