Is the general consensus that such a > scheme is a Good Thing? Well as a player of both of those different style of muds I prefer the way circle has it now. You can see how hard you hit with one weapon vs. another weapon. So it gives you a judgement of how good a weapon is without having to "lore" or "identify" it. It also depends on how the message are made I guess. An old mud I used to play had it with respect to total HP and it kinda was annoying imo. Of course the roleplaying of either of these ways is questionable. However it seems with the HP system for nearly every mob you end up "tickling it in the early rounds" and massacreing it right before death. It seems to me that in a battle that just because the opponent is injured you really shouldn't see messages that you are striking it harder. Well reading back the past paragraph I didn't really explain myself well. This is how I do it on my mud. Hitting in battle is based on dex, str and weapon skill. Just like many other skills weapon skills are also based on percentages. In battle with the regular damage messages it kind of gives you an idea of your str and skill without knowing your stats which can't be seen till lvl 110 or (havn't decided yet). In the prompt we have the opponents condition so the new damage system isn't needed - it shows you how hurt he is right there [ ORC ][ v.bad] etc. I plan to code in that you can actually hit more frequently and do more damage when he's injured but havn't got to that yet. I guess what I'm trying to say is I like seeing how much damage the weapon is doing on the same scale all the time. If the mob is at 4hp/500hp and I hit it dinky I want to see you barely bruise the mob. Not you massacre the mob just because it is on it's last leg. appelae@rainier.chem.plu.edu +------------------------------------------------------------+ | Ensure that you have read the CircleMUD Mailing List FAQ: | | http://democracy.queensu.ca/~fletcher/Circle/list-faq.html | +------------------------------------------------------------+
