Undeniably, there are occassions where a person is out of sorts, and takes out some of their problems on a newbie who has posted a "stupid" question. But, this is not how it always is, and actually, not how it usually is. Most flames come because the reader has seen the same message several times, or because it's in the FAQ, or because it has no purpose on this CircleMUD mailing list, or because the same message was posted recently, or the person clearly made no attempt to understand or do something him/her-self, etc. When someone asks for code to do something, you can almost bet that someone is going to reply with, "Do it yourself." Not even George, who seems able to avoid flaming to a much higher degree than myself, is able to resist the urge to tell someone to stop posting messages and start writing code. It'd make things much easier if people actually decided to do work on their own hobby (and remembered, of course, that MUDs are just a hobby). What kind of satisfaction can be derived from buying a model car, and then having someone else build it for you? daniel koepke / dkoepke@california.com +------------------------------------------------------------+ | Ensure that you have read the CircleMUD Mailing List FAQ: | | http://democracy.queensu.ca/~fletcher/Circle/list-faq.html | +------------------------------------------------------------+
