When Ardale (guess who's MUD that is) goes live, you will see a
proper delayed combat system in there.  Rather than the quick and
easy (and comfortably reassuring) bunch of attacks each round, we
have a delayed system placed on each action based on a bunch of
factors (stats, skills, etc etc).

As soon as the MUD is ready for external visitors to have a nosey,
I'll let you all know.
