NEWBIE Unresolved External Symbols

I get these compilation errors a lot using MSVC++ 5.0... A lot of
unresolved external symbols like Win_Main@16 or something along those
lines, what is up with that? My skills lie in the mediocre range of
coding and linking errors blow my mind :)  Any help would be greatly
appreciated, thanks.
