I have an odd suggestion: how about a CAN_TELL flag for mobs, meaning that characters _can_ send tells to them (but not mobs that don't have the flag) You could play off of that with various specprocs. One idea is a gatekeeper, but there's a want to keep passwords from being printed to anyone in the room at the time. This allows a bit of a privacy secure thing to go on.
