Check the ftp site and snippets page (read the FAQ if need pointers to their locations). There is code for an event queue system on one of the two. Eric Green's DGC code (publicly available, but I can never remember the name of the ftp site ;) has an execellent implementation of queues. And a lot of other neat stuff =) But it is based on patch level 8, so it may take some work to use on other versions.
