I have run into this a bit, and I discovered that that is because of the
vast number of CircleMUDs out there. At least, that is what the people
that I asked said. It's like eating apple pie for desert every night.
After so many nights of it, you really don't want to eat anymore of it.

The "problem" lies with the fact that the stock distribution can be
turned into a ZipMUD (TM) in a few hours. This ZipMUD will not only be
complete, but it has a good, mostly-balanced world with a solid code-base
that has lots of features and very few bugs.

If I log into a new MUD and find that I can navigate their starting city
while blindfolded, then I drop link and never return. If someone is going
to put so little effort into a MUD, then I want nothing to do with them.

How do I handle it... Well... I do have mention of DIKU and Circle and JE
on my login screen, but when advertising the MUD, I convienently "forget"
to mention the code base. If I do mention a code-base for some reason, I
label it as being "MESA" code-base. Simply do not mention the code-base
and hopefully the atmosphere and charm of your MUD will enthrall them
enough to override their inbred and innate disgust for Circle MUDs.

As in:

Mutliuser Environment with Simulated Adventures.

I was going to use MECCA, but I figured that that might offend some people.
