Hi, im not sure if this problem has been discussed before, but im having a problem with long hostnames, on a stock bpl12 mud. when a player logs on with a hostname longer than 32 characters, they receive the introduction and the name prompt, but they are disconnected with the [ Losing descriptor without char. ] syslog message. this means that players with ugly hostnames like brisbane-modem2.qld.sillyisp.com.au (which for some reason seems to be increasingly popular) can't connect. the problem also occurs with the ident patch, which adds another couple of characters to the hostname. my personal dynamic address, rmt??????.logicworld.com.au is not allowed to connect with ident enabled, causing glok@rmt158178.logicworld.com.au to be too long. i am wondering if i could increase the length of HOST_LENGTH, but that would require a playerwipe. is there a way to truncate long hostnames or leave those that are too long as numerical ip addresses? if anyone has come across this problem before, or has any ideas on how to fix it, help would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Nic Suzor +------------------------------------------------------------+ | Ensure that you have read the CircleMUD Mailing List FAQ: | | http://democracy.queensu.ca/~fletcher/Circle/list-faq.html | +------------------------------------------------------------+
