Are you using the command line to compile this program or did you create it in the integrated editor and use a project? I never had to mess with it using the command prompt but in the editor (on VC 5.0) on the project menu is an item that reads settings (ALT-F7). In the settings click on the C++ tab and choose Pre-Compiled headers from the drop down box. As for the command line in version 5.0 there is no option to turn them off only to turn them on. Double check your makefile for flags like /Fp and /Y(any char).
